Mostar Citizens’ Assembly, last session

The citizens of Mostar unanimously – we want more beautiful and better maintained public spaces.

31 July 2021, Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina – During the four consecutive weekends, a representative group of 47 randomly selected citizens learned about, deliberated and made recommendations on the cleanliness of the city and the maintenance of public spaces in Mostar. This topic was proposed and selected by the citizens of Mostar after consultations with civil society and city authorities.

During the previous session, held on 24 July 2021, a total of 26 recommendations were formulated, and received the support of more than 80% of the participants in the Assembly. The five thematic units are:

1. Landscaping and use of public spaces and creation of new ones

2. Raising awareness and educating citizens

3. Reorganisation of public utility companies

4. Waste management

5. Institutionalisation of the Citizens’ Assembly within a legal framework for further action

On this last session, 31 July 2021, the participants of the Assembly will engage in a discussion with city councilors, and,  based on the comments received from the city administration and experts, will formulate final recommendations. Recommendations arising from this process will be sent to the city administration and the City Council of the City of Mostar for consideration and further action.

The Assembly is organized according to a specially developed methodology that ensures a transparent and inclusive process. This process enables citizens to learn about the topic from relevant experts, hear the views of local actors and political representatives as well as learn from experiences of other cities.
