Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
On 6 May 2022, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo Bojana Urumova and Mayor of Mostar Mario Kordic signed a Grant Agreement to support the implementation of recommendations of the first Mostar Citizens’ Assembly held in July 2021.
The Agreement, in the amount of EUR 35,000, aims to support the City of Mostar in responding to the citizens’ recommendations, which are included in the City Council’s Action Plan adopted in November 2021. The funds are intended for the purchase and installation of waste bins in selected public areas, for horticultural landscaping of two primary school yards and the organisation of a public awareness-raising campaign on ecological topics.
The grant is provided within the Council of Europe project “Innovating Democratic Participation at the Local Level in Bosnia and Herzegovina” implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025 .
“We are very proud with this process, and particularly glad that this Agreement ensures concrete implementation of recommendations which citizens can witness. We are continuing our co-operation and undertaking steps for the organisation of a second Citizens’ Assembly,” said Mayor Kordic.
All activities envisaged under the Agreement will contribute to strengthening capacities of the City of Mostar, and to fostering openness, co-creation and increased citizen participation in the local policies.
The project “Innovating democratic participation at local level in Bosnia and Herzegovina” aims to enhance the quality of local democracy and create opportunities for citizens to engage in innovative participatory processes in Mostar and elsewhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It promotes new democratic approaches, open government, public ethics, and transparent and inclusive local policy making in the country.
