Final phase of the topic selection process and registrations to the Citizens’ Assembly

After several months of preparation, we are pleased to announce that our project „Building democratic participation in the City of Mostar“ is about to reach one of its main objectives, which is the organisation of the very first Citizens’ Assembly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose opening session will take place on 10 and 11 July 2021, in Mostar.

This Citizens’ Assembly will allow the randomly selected citizens to participate in the preparation of decisions on a defined issue of local interest. The proposed solutions during the Assembly will be later presented to the City Council of Mostar, for prospective implementation.

After wide consultations of citizens, local civil society organisations and representatives of the City of Mostar, 3 main topics of interest for the City of Mostar and its citizens were defined.

As a citizen of Mostar, you might have received an invitation letter from the Mayor of Mostar, Mr Mario Kordić, and the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo, Ms Bojana Urumova, to become a member of the Citizen’s Assembly. A random selection of a group of 40 citizens via a computer software – to ensure impartiality of the process- will be carried out, among those who will express their interest in participating in the Assembly. However, even if you are not selected, you can still influence the course of events by voting for your preferred topic, out of the 3 presented in the invitation letter, which, in your opinion, should, be debated during the Assembly.

If your household is one of the 5000 randomly selected which had the chance to receive the invitation letter, do not miss the chance to take part in this exceptional event and be one of the initiators of a better environment within the City on the Neretva river.

The invitation letter with all the practical information on the Citizens’ Assembly is available here.
