City of Mostar follows up on a number of citizens’ recommendations

Through the financial support granted by the Council of Europe in May 2022, the City of Mostar has responded to a number of recommendations stemming from the first Citizens’ Assembly and as per the City Council’s Action Plan.

The Grant, in the amount of 35 000 EUR,  aimed to support the City of Mostar in the follow up to the citizens’ recommendations, and was provided  as part of the project “Innovating Democratic Participation at the Local Level in Bosnia and Herzegovina”   implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025.

With this support, the City 1) Purchased 40 metal trash cans and 10 concrete trash cans 2) Horticulturally  arranged two schoolyards of the elementary schools “Ilija Jakovljević” and “Mustafa Ejubović Šejh Jujo”; 3) Organised awareness raising campaign on environmental protection under the slogan “Together for a more beautiful and clean Mostar” through which 21 elementary school and 17 secondary school students were educated on how to improve the city public hygiene as well as on the importance of preservation of the public green areas in the City of Mostar. In addition, the promotional and educational fliers about ecology, management of waste and animal disposals, were disseminated during the public campaign at the city square. The activities were organised in an inclusive manner, with the involvement of citizens of Mostar, students and youth, local communities and representatives of local authorities. 

These activities contributed to the strengthening of the capacities of the City of Mostar and fostered openness, co-creation and increased citizen participation in the local policies.

The project “Innovating democratic participation at local level in Bosnia and Herzegovina” aims to enhance the quality of local democracy and create opportunities for citizens to engage in innovative participatory processes in Mostar and elsewhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It promotes new democratic approaches, open government, public ethics, and transparent and inclusive local policy making in the country.
